Exelon hosted Nuclear Plant tours for Illinois legislators and labor leaders at Byron Station on October 8th and at Dresden Station on October 27th. IBEW Local 15 President Terry McGoldrick and Vice-President Bill Phillips attended the tours as well. Both tours were performed as each plant was in their scheduled re-fuel outages with a significant number of skilled supplemental workers from all over the state on site performing scheduled maintenance activities. As they toured the facilities. attendees not only saw the size and scope of these power plants but also met and talked with many of the workers at these plants . For several, this was their first time in a nuclear power plant, and they were astounded by the size of the facility and how many workers were involved in the maintenance and operation.
“This was a great opportunity for Exelon to show area legislators and labor leaders what a tremendous asset these plants are to the State of Illinois and for IBEW Local 15 to show how well our skilled members maintain and operate these facilities” said President Terry McGoldrick. More plant tours will be scheduled as we continue to try to work towards comprehensive energy legislation that will allow these plants to continue to produce reliable, clean energy now and far into the future.
