ILLINOIS COAL PLANTS OPERATE RELIABLY TO HELP AVOID TEXAS TYPE NIGHTMARE

During the recent extreme cold weather period across the country, the Local 15 represented coal plants in Illinois operated at high output levels to help ensure grid reliability and avoid Texas style blackouts. At our NRG operated facilities (Waukegan, Will County and Powerton), four out of five units were 100% available and all ran at 95% or higher outputs. At our Vistra operated facility (Kincaid), both units were 100% available and ran at 98% or higher output. This kind of performance underscores the value of these assets to the state and the type of maintenance and operations performed by the highly skilled workers at these plants. This kind of performance from all of our baseload generation in Illinois is what we have grown to expect and is part of our discussion with state policymakers as Labor leaders in the state continue to push for comprehensive energy legislation.
